State Highway 79 / 190 / 36 near Northern edge of town

Milano, TexasJan 23, 20063 Comments

Traveling south on Highway 190 most drivers get lulled into the posted 70 MPH speed limit. However, if you don’t get your vehicle speed down at the very northern edge of Milano, well before you see their 50 MPH speed limit sign, its probably too late. There is precious little time and distance to react to the officer that is within spitting distance from the 50 MPH speed limit sign, off to the right, next to some buildings. Despite the fact that the traffic around you (when and if there is any) probably won’t have responded and slowed either and no that lives or property were put at risk, you too will get to contribute to the Milano annual city budget. I suppose by their letter of the law, their tickets are valid. But, they sure don’t give drivers much reaction time to slow things down from one posted speed to another. Actually, the officer was just as nice and polite as can be. He had the drill down pat and appeared to be at or over quota. I’ll be buying gas and travel goodies for the wife and kids in another town until this problem gets fixed.

Comments:
It is impossible for you to contribute to the City of Milano budget. The City of Milano DOES NOT have a police department, and never has had one. The city is covered by the Milam County Sheriffs Office.

This is speed trap, After you make the left turn after being stopped at the light a driver behind me rushing up on me speeding, but changed lanes and I was stopped he said for going 65in a 50. This was not correct. The other car was speeding and I was given the ticket. Before giving me the ticket he asks me for my phone number which I thought was weird since the information he needed was on my license. He proceeded to write it on a pad. After taking a year to prepare the ticket, he comes back and gives me the ticket. After I sign it he makes a smart comment,"You write almost as go as me"!!! This was totally unprofessional and uncalled for.

I can confirm the speed trap. I got a ticket recently, and the officer is unprofessional with the whole situation. I am wrong to go 11-13 over in a 55mph zone but knows this officer in the previous comment just waits in the SUV to catch off-guard drivers. You have to be careful and make sure you know if you are in the 55mph zone and the 70mph zone. The same officer in the previous comment does ask for a phone number and writes the number down on a yellow notepad. I would write his name but I will follow commenting rules. I specifically made an account to warn others of this town. That same officer probably never wrote a warning for years or in his life so don't even think you can talk your way out of this guaranteed citation.
