State HIghway 95

Moscow, IdahoApr 01, 20011 Comments

South of town in the 35 MPH speed zone. City police will set up across from the John Deer dealership. The highway drops down from a hill and it’s easy to exceed the 35 MPH limit if you aren’t careful. Also, heading north into town from 95, a city car will often be located across from the A&W in a vacant lot where the speed drops from 35 to 25 MPH. The east-west bound Pullman-Moscow highway is frequently patrolled as well, with speed drops from 45 MPH, to 35 to 25 MPH coming into Moscow from Pullman. Campus roads are also good radar set-up around the Kibbe Dome west of campus.

Comments:
I can't believe no one has mentioned coming into Moscow on Hwy 95 from the north; the speed limit drops from 60 to 45 to 35 to 25 in about the time it takes to write that. On top of that, the 45-35-25 transition takes place on an increasingly steep downgrade and you definitely have to ride your brakes all the way, or you're likely to be a participant in the "blue light fund raiser" for Moscow. They hide and aim the fund raiser gun at the steepest part of the downgrade in the 25 mph zone. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. Yet...Moscow, and a lot of other silly little burgs just like it, fight like tigers to keep traffic routed right through downtown. Shows what their priorities really are. A bypass route makes a lot of sense, but while the provincial city council exists, it won't happen.
