State Highway Going west through the small downtown area near downtown

Kerens, TexasJul 27, 20081 Comments

Going west on Highway 31 from Athens to Corsicana at about 9 p.m. on a Saturday night, I was pulled over for speeding. I had been attentive to the speed signs as I approached this small town. There was no traffic. I slowed down when I saw the speed limit drop. The officer made some remark that I appeared to have been drinking. Actually I was suffering from a sinus infection that night and although I had had dinner with friends where alcohol was served, I had had nothing. I drive a car that looks expensive. I was not speeding but was given a ticket for being 10 miles over the speed limit. This is definitely a speed trap set up to make money.

Comments:
I was travelling westbound on 31 entering Kerens. I too have an expensive car. My cruise control was set on 74. as soon as I saw the 55 sign, I tapped on the brakes to let the car slow down but it was too late. I would imagine they have their choice to stop just about any car that comes through there. So let that be a lesson, especially if you have an expensive looking car, there is not much crime in those small towns so the officers don't have to spend much time chasing bad guys. I'll gladly pay my ticket because I technically did break the law. I just hope that someday some poor citizen in that town is not in need of protection when the officer is out on 31 handing out tickets to the unlucky law-abiding people coming through there.
