Comments:
I had a difficult time understanding the above comment. There are extra patrols in this area because this is a dangerous road... locals are very intimadated by the extremely fast traffic. Many drunk drivers. Speeders will pass on your right even. Many deaths due to speeders... some really sad stories! There are many head-on TCs... many places there is no escape because of rocks on both sides of the road. Every year one or more of the local young people are killed by a drunk or a speeder. I have slowed down to 5-over speed limit. I think it is rather stupid to speed on 41 North of Fresno. They will catch you or you will kill someone or a family... very dangerous area! Best place to get a ticket is 41/Oneals signal area. I think these CHPs are some of the most professional anywhere. Those that get tickets deserve them. Local judge doubles the fine if speed is over 70. The female officers are really tough!

Yes, Highway 41 north from Fresno, is a very dangerous road where those of us who live in the foothills and travel it often meet many flatlanders flying up to the Sierras in a hurry to start recreating; then we meet then on the way down after a day or weekend of partying, many times full of liquor. They do deserve tickets. If everyone would learn that exceeding the speed limit, following too close behind a car you think is going to slow because it is going the speed limit, and passing on this stretch of road will not get you up the hill any faster, it would be a much safer road to travel and there would be way fewer deaths due to traffic accidents. I can't tell you how many times a speeder has passed me, barely making it back in time to miss an oncoming car, then when I pull up to the first stoplight in Oakhurst, there he/she is sitting in the lane next to me. However, I agree, the grade at Road 200 (turnof to O'Neals) is definitely a place where you can expect to see a Highway Patrol car at either end of the passing lane traveling north or south. Also, expect to see them at most any of the other passing lanes on the way north between Fresno and Oakhurst and, most recently, I have seen them just north of Rocky Cut, the west side of the road, just north of the 22 Mile House Valero Gas Station. So, everyone slow down and enjoy the view on this road and you won't get a ticket and you will arrive safely at your destination. Once you pass me, you will find a dozen other cars ahead of me; chances are you won't be able to pass them all and I will see you at the stoplight in Oakurst!
