State Highway SR 20 near State Highway SR 20

Philomath, OregonFeb 06, 20061 Comments

SR 20 runs E-W through Philomath, Oregon (pop. 4,000). The road is heavily trafficked, as many drivers pass through from Corvallis, Oregon or I-5 on their way to the Oregon coast and back. The speed limit through Philomath is 25 mph on the two-lane SR 20. The speed limit E and W of Philomath may be about 45-55. The police hide on the side streets and pull out behind a car and pace it. When I was caught, the police were hidden on a side street in a marked car at 1:30 am, there were two officers in the car, and there were several cars on SR 20 both behind and in front of me (at least 5-10).

Comments:
Not only is this a speed trap but it is designed to trap out of state drivers who are less likely to fight the ticket in court. When I got caught the cops passed 6 local drivers in order to pull me over. Then the cop lied about how fast I was going. The court is no help either since they support the money that the speed trap brings in. I advise that if at all possible everyone should avoid Pholomath all together and find a friendlier route.
