State Highway White Mountain near Eastman Road

North Conway, New HampshireMay 24, 20072 Comments

As you reach the end of the commercial strip in North Conway, there is a set of lights. Turning to the left takes you toward Fryeburg. ME., and going straight ahead takes you toward Conway Village and the Route 16 South artery. After cresting the hill after the light going toward Conway, there is a straightaway that has a confusing set of posted speed limits (45 mph to 40 southbound, 45 to 35 northbound with areas overlapping). Traffic stops at the scenic vista near the center of this route are incessant, and mainly target commercial vehicles. I have seen such stops go on for 2 hours or more. However, Any vehicle is subject to pulled over by either Conway PD, NH State Police, Carroll County Sheriff’s Dept., or NHDOT.

Comments:
This is not a speed trap, as I live here and drive this route regularly, I have been run off the road 3 times in this area where the 2 lanes merge into one, and the left lane cars (which do not have the right of way), seem to think they have the right to run us drivers in the proper lane, off into oncoming traffic! I have complained to Chief Wagner twice about this problem, and have yet to see any police car near this dangerous area!!! who ever reported this as a speed trap obviously does not live here! Or know what they are talking about ! ~ Sr. Citizen ~

Correction: that report should state the Cars in The Right lane, should not force us in the proper lanes off into oncoming traffic lanes! ~Sr.Citizen~
