State Hwy. 152

Los Banos, CaliforniaDec 19, 20021 Comments

Frequent and only route of travel between Central CA and San Jose/Silicon Valley. High commuter rate, and very frequent speed limit changes ranging from as high as 65 to as low as 30. Cops on every corner, and chances are if you stop at a convenience store for any reason, you’ll be pulled over upon exit with them checking to see if you’ve purchased alcohol. 55 is the limit primarily until you hit Los Banos…it’s 65 coming off Hwy. 99 onto Hwy. 152. I know people who have been cited for going 58 in a 55.

Comments:
I commute every day between Los Banos and San Jose. The whole stretch between Los Banos and Gilroy is a "trolling" area with their KA band radar. They drive along in one direction and get you coming the other way, then perform a "Dukes of Hazard" u-turn in the center divide. The Cal Fire station and the various small turn out areas are definitely favorite fishing holes for the CHP. Just get a good KA band radar detector and keep your eyes peeled in this area for them hiding out with their laser and you'll be fine. Of course, slowing down to is another option. If you're headed East over Pacheco Pass to I-5, you should also be careful at the Romero Visitor's Center entrance (laser) and just on the other side of the Hwy 33 Santa Nella overpass (they like to hide behind the dirt mounds). West bound, watch out by the dam and park entrance. Obvious tip: Brake light ahead on a clear highway = CHP
