State Hwy 42 in and around Dayton, VA

Dayton, VirginiaApr 05, 20111 Comments

From Bridgewater on 42 (John Wayland Hwy) watch it around Turner Ashby HS, especially in the school zone and along 42 right through Dayton and on to Harrisonburg. Morning and evening commuters are likely targets and the speed limits vary from 35 to 55.

Exactly on the money, every part of it. I went to college at EMU in the 'burg, first thing we were warned about was Dayton, and Bridgewater and to be very careful all along the length of 42 from campus and past Turner Ashby. I used to go racing at the Tiltyard in Dayton, and since I was from PA for the first few months I got tailed by Dayton, Bridgewater and Rockingham county boys constantly trying to hit me for no front plate. PA has no front plate and they couldn't hit me for it since I was a PA resident and not VA. After seeing me in the area, eventually they let up on me and started waving and stopping to say hello. I got to know most of the Dayton, Bridgewater and a couple RCSO guys and they all ended up being pretty chill. This does not mean they won't pull you over though, I did not get a pass and neither did any of the college kids. They hit the local college commuters rushing down 42 to class as well. 42 has tons of driveways, pull offs, and shoulders and they love McGaheysville especially by the repair shop there. That one is legendary.
