State Route 191 near State Highway 191

Blanding, UtahAug 20, 20084 Comments

Be careful when approaching Blanding Utah on Highway 191, state polices are prowling for vehicles with out-of-state license plates, especially if the drivers are Native American Indians, Mexicans and African Americans.

The State Highway Patrols will not cite residents because they all relatives due to a polygamy that was practiced when the town was settled.

Thus, there are many reports of incidents which reveals that State Highway Patrols are targeting minorities. This practice vindicates that State Highway Patrols are racial profiling minorties.

I strongly recommend that you drive carefully and have all your vhicles documents and driver license ready. Believe me, they will stop you even on suspicions. Good luck.

I would like to know who writes this stuff. I am one of those polygamy offspring. I have lived in Blanding most of my life and can guarantee that the residents of Blanding do get cited when they have broken the law. Our law enforcement have done a good job in busting many big drug dealers passing through here and also illegal immigrants. I say if you get a citation while passing through or are near Blanding then it is because you are breaking the law...no matter what color you are.

As many places in the US, the Blanding area is an area in which the justice system has been perverted into a for profit proposition. I was stopped in May-09 south of Blanding. Of course I was out of state (the cop laughed that I was the 3rd person he "talked" to that day who was going to Arizona) I fought the ticket and of course all they wanted was the money. I was willing, as I have been in the distant past to pay $400 to a lawyer to beat a $100 ticket. This third-world like corruption in little town America is rampant through the country and is a significant source of revenue for many localities (Most of Arizona, Detroit Airport, etc...). I eventually had this ticket dismissed but what disturbed me was the officer. He was 100% aware that he was simply fabricating the "facts" involved and he was amazed that I knew it (he followed me for a mile before he pulled me over so he knew exactly how fast I was going). They don't tune the radar guns as they are required to by law (but they will swear to it in court of course) and the states don't require radar calibration anymore (which I predict will eventually stopped via court action). I had the dam cruise control on 65 and he told me I was going 80 (it really was silly). I had a witness with me and when I asked for a jury trial (this really thrilled the lawyer) they agreed to dismiss if I paid the fine (actually more than the original fine to be honest). The prosecutor actually increased the charges (increased the speed I was allegedly driving) in a rather weak attempt at being intimidating. I'm sure they laughed all the way to the bank but I wanted it dismissed as it was just simply wrong. The extortion fee was difficult to swallow but basically it is similar to getting mugged. What I continue to find amazing is that cops as a general demographic group are easily the worst drivers on the road without any other candidates in the discussion. This character let us go and as we were driving (10 min later) through Bluff (40MPH Speed Limit) he drove up in back of us easily going 60+. Without lights on of course. This happens all the time and I mean all of the time. Cops are constantly driving well beyond speed limits, all over the road and erratically without their lights on, which of course is illegal. I have decided to call 911 when I observe this behavior as it is illegal and dangerous.

I agree with the 2nd commentor. I was raised and went to school in Blanding. And, not a caucasian. I too have been followed as I drive into/out of town. The officers in this town do target out-of-state license plates, especially Native American Indians, Mexicans and African Americans. I think profiling is very, very wrong. The small towns in Utah need sensitivity training big time!

Thank you for setting up this website to report moron cops and towns. Blanding UT is a speed trap. This is a big warning to out of state License plates especially AZ. First off the speed limit in this town is 30 MPH even though the roads are practically empty !!! The reason small towns like this use low speed limits is so they can stop you even if you are going at 35 or 40. The officer that trapped us clearly marked when we were entering town and was waiting downhill and turned on his lights as soon as he saw us pass by I am definitely going at least 5 miles slower than what his "radar" detected What the original poster said is true that i felt they are targeting because i am non white I would be very interested to see the statistics of the races of people stopped in this town and also the state licenses
