State Route 4 and 12 near State Rt .12 to Bridgewater

Woodstock, VermontApr 12, 20085 Comments

This 4 mile stretch of Rt 4 from the intersection of Rt 12 north to and including the town of Bridgewater varies in limits from 25 to 50 mph. The limit changes are frequent and abrupt. Every time going through here I see someone being cited.

Next to the center of "downtown" Woodstock at the intersection of Rt 106 is a loop known as The Green. It is two lanes wide and posted 25 mph, no passing. I missed the no passing sign in previous trips. When asked, by the officer, why was I pulled over I replied I didn’t think I was speeding. She didn’t have radar on but cited the no passing. A speeding ticket would have been cheaper than the $199 no passing fine.

If you use Rt 89 go around this section rather than go through it. Or drive like you’re a little old lady.

The village of Woodstock is an open-air shopping mall with swarms of pedestrians. The idea that you would try passing a car there is mind boggling. There is nothing even remotely resembling a passing zone anywhere near the village of Woodstock.

The comment #2 must be from a Woodstock town official. The original comment is correct. There is a wide area near the green where it looks like there are two lanes. Ticketing the tourists is a major pastime in Woodstock. Do not go 1 mile over the speed limit. The locals say they'd rather have a toll booth at the entrance to town.

Still an active trap. Particularly as you enter bridgwater from either direction. They nab people who don't slow to 35 immediately.

People have told me they will not drive on Rt 4 near Bridgewater, today I. Found out why, I always slow way down there but got nabbed for driving the same speed as the other cars, I was even passes three times on Rt 4 . I was at the speed li it but cop said I went by a radar zone, no doubt he was lying.

My boss got a ticket in Woodstock several years ago by the woman cop in Woodstock claiming he was going 3 mph over the limit. He argued that he was the third car in line and wanted to know why only he got stopped. He was ignored. Several months later he was at a party and met a woman who is a local from Woodstock. She told him that she knew that woman cop and that she purposely targets out of state vehicles.
