State Route 51 near Hill Road

South Heights, PennsylvaniaFeb 04, 20051 Comments

The South Heights police department enforces the 35 mph speed limit along their little stretch of Route 51 in various areas. As you enter South Heights from the south (where Rt. 151 meets Rt.51) there are timing lines just past there. The officer will sit in his Ford Crown Victoria on an access road to the closed power plant.

The next set of timing lines as you head north are right in the middle of town near a crosswalk. The lines are there but I have never seen anyone timing vehicles.

Continuing northbound, the next set of lines are right by the post office. The officer will either sit in the post office parking lot or in the parking lot of a car repair place across the street.

And finally, the last and most notorious spot is just as you’re leaving town. There’s a vacant lot on the right as you head north out of town where the officer will sit. He will time people as they come into town out of a 55 mph speed zone or will time people leaving town entering the 55 mph speed zone. However, fear not. This last spot is illegal according to Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Code.

Comments:
The empty lot that the officer is parked in.... is actually in Hopewell Twp and the are just north of the Post Office ( about 500 ft) is in Hopewell Twp as well. So, any tickets they write for that area, isnt even in South Heights Borough
