State Route 59 near 135th Street

Plainfield, IllinoisJun 21, 20042 Comments

I got a speeding ticket on Rt. 59 just north of Plainfield. I was clocked at 57 in a 45 area. As a result I took a driver’s safety class to keep the points off my record. During class discussion I learned of this web site and also that 3 of 19 speeding tickets (20 students in class) in this class were written between 119th street and Plainfield on Rt. 59. Also this section of Rt. 59 has had a drop in limit that I did not know about. Keep your eyes open on this stretch of road.

I got my ticket at 11pm and the others got their tickets during the afternoon. The Plainfield baracks is on this stretch of 59 so its a great place for the guys to get their quota for the day and move on.

Comments:
The police headquarters is no longer on this stretch of road as of 2009. The intersection of Rte 59 and 135th Street is now a red light photo enforced intersection. If you are caught on camera going through the light as it turns red, you get a $100 ticket. The police no longer manually enforce this intersection.

90% of these Plainfield "speed traps" are simply streets on which people violate the posted speed limit. This being one example. "Speed trap" implies a condition of the roadway or geography landscaping which implicitly encourages a higher speed than it actually indicated. Areas of rapid speed limit changes, etc. Route 59 has a speed limit of 45. Period. Not hard to figure out.
