State Route 62 near Silver Street

Poca, West VirginiaAug 18, 20062 Comments

The speed limit is enforced very well in this area. The speed limit drops from 55 to 45 to 35 and then back to 45 while traveling through this 2 mile long town. I have lived in this area for years and have seen many people pulled over. Also be careful on silver st., 25 mph.

Comments:
When I was in the AF and stationed in Ohio I traveled Rt 35 often during the early 70'S and this is also a bad speed trap. In the 80's when i was again stationed in Ohio I finally learned from a trucker that by getting on 36 north of Poca you avoided the speed trap and actually got to I64 faster and into Charleston faster. On the return trip I drove the 5 extra miles west on 64 so that I could again use 36 and avoid Poca.

Yes, Silver Street is definitely a speed trap. 10 yrs ago, when I was going to my mother's wake, I just happened to be going through Silver Street from Poca River Road. I went that way because it is closer from the Sissonville area. I saw the cop sitting there at the Church as I was nearing the end of the road. He pulled out behind me, I knew I had been going a little fast though, I went ahead and turned onto the main street in Poca way before he got behind me. Pulled into the funeral home parking lot with him right behind me. Some of my family was outside at that time as well. Luckily I didn't receive a ticket. But you really have to watch these small towns around West Virginia.
