State Route 7

Powahatan Point, OhioJun 21, 20043 Comments

This town is notorious for stopping and ticketing drivers for as little as 1 mph over the speed limit. I was personally pulled over chastised for over 20 minutes as a teenager with my father in the car for FOUR miles an hour over. The further worst part was that they actually clocked me not only outside there city limits but OUTSIDE the limits of there COUNTY! Also, people have been pulled over and harrassed for extended periods of time for such minor infractions as haveing a miss aligned headlight, FACTORY window tint, and just generally not likeing the "looks" of your vehicle. Whenever possible AVOID THIS VILLAGE AT ALL COSTS!

I live in the town just south of Powhatan Point. Believe this person. I drive through it everyday to work. The cop is there every morning and every evening and believe me, If you have an out of state plate you better be under the posted speed limit of 35. Also when you hit the city limit exiting you better not accelerate until you pass the 55 sign. The south end of town is at a county line that is supposedly outside their jurisdiction but they can and will stop you there if you take off too soon. At night you better really beware. They sit with their lights completely off. Which in Ohio is against the law for them to do but good luck proving it. Also dont bother fighting them in mayors court. Most of the towns income comes from those tickets so you are just wasting your time. IT is a Speedtrap town so beware.

I live right on RT 7 and the cars and trucks blow by my driveway at 45 - 50 MPH. If you get a ticket for SPEEDING, it does not make Powhatan a speed trap. Sing says 35 mph then do 35 mph!

Horrible Town!! Using 2 cop cars, each one sitting at the city limit signs on st. rt. 7. As entering into the town (north bound) a vehicle in front of me was pulled over when I looked down at my speed, I was like wow they weren't speeding...maybe 1-2 mph over at the most, I continued up the road and as I am about to drive out of town another car at the city limit sign. I was maybe 1-2 mph over if that, cop said 12! I guess they are getting a head start on raking in the money for the year. It would be so great to have a 4 lane bypass and dry that town up like the others north of them. If you're like me and have to drive through there, set your cruise.
