Sussex County – about 10 miles north of Emporia, VA.

Southbound AND northbound on Interstate 95 (MM 18 on up to MM 30 or so). Both state troopers and county deputies will hide in the median strips using stationary radar. The posted limit is 70 mph – which is fairly reasonable for that stretch of road; but it is quite easy to hit 80 mph+ if you are trying to ‘make time’ and traffic thins out a bit.

They will stop you for 10 mph over, to which I can attest. In VA, anything over 80 mph is "reckless driving" – so 81 mph or more can and will get you a mandatory court appearance because you cannot pre-pay the fine or mail it without going before a judge.

Be careful out there! I was lucky enough to get a warning, but that doesn’t mean they are handing them out like candy.
