Taconic State Parkway near Bulls Head Road

The New York State Police are frequently on duty in the town of Stanford on the Taconic. The town pays the State Police for the trooper here and it is a fund raiser for them. Police wait and measure you with Radar in both directions of the road within a mile or two of Bulls Head Rd, but more commonly Northbound. They will give you about 5MPH over the posted 55 limit, but anything much above that you will be pulled over. Anything over 70 or so gets you ticketed for 76 MPH, which is considered "reckless endangerment" a very expensive ticket with lots of points on your license. The troopers are usually polite and if you have a clean driving record you can go to court and the trooper will recommend to the judge that the penalty be reduced to "disobeying a traffic control device" which is 1 point on the license, same as going through a stop sign… this beats the 3 to 5 points you will get from a speeding ticket.

Comments:
Taconic Parkway is loaded with traps. Towns subsidize State Troopers by purchasing equipment for them. The fines received go at least in part into the town's coffers...as if New York State didn't already have property taxes out of sight. Town of Clinton court is filled with people picked up on Taconic,,as are probably all the townships bordering the Parkway. Over the years have received a number of tickets on Taconic, although only a part time resident.
