The whole town and surrounding towns
Anyone that says this area of U.S. Hwy. 301 is not a speedtrap is either lying or is a cop from Lawtey. This is one of the most well known speed traps in the state of Florida. Yes it is true that they are only in it for the money. When you go through these towns you will realize that the only way the few cops will get paid is by writing tickets. The real crime in these areas is handled by the Sheriff and State Police because most of the Lawty PD and Waldo PD are not very well trained except in ticket writing.

US Highway 301 through Lawtey is a speed trap nightmare. I used to work at the Correctional Institution there, and at nights, would watch the cop stop and ticket anyone who was doing 46 MPH or faster. The speed limit is 45. I have seen one of the cops hide at the gas pumps at the service station with her radar stuck out the window and another cop hiding a couple of blocks away at the school. There's a billboard on each side (a few miles) warning of Lawtey...."Speed Trap Ahead"! Another billboard proclaims "Lawtey, Not a SpeedTrap....We're concerned with your safety". I have NEVER heard of them giving ANYONE a warning for speeding. It's ALWAYS a fine. Recently, one of their "finest" was arrested for accepting bribes from speeders. I HAVE known other states where a violater could pay cash to the officer, but the officer was required to issue a receipt to the driver. Two other "burgs" which are as bad are Hampton (just off US 301) and Waldo.
