There are no speed traps

Looks like someone received a ticket in Highland County, and they are crying over spilled milk.We have only four Virginia State Troopers assigned to the county. That means there are no more than two on duty at anyone time. The county is mountainous and quite rugged,so speeding doesn’t seem to be a real problem….but if you need correcting, you will be written a citation by one of our fine men in blue.

Comments:
all of highland county is a speed trap.besides luring retired folks in from northern va and the maple festival there isnt much else to generate revenue for this small depressed area with virtually no employment.it will also depend on who you are as to whether or not you actually recieve a citation.a local person with clout and pull or in the right click will not be ticketed.i know all this because i lived in this little sh*t hole for over thirty years.many other folks i know that still reside in highland county will attest to all this.drive safe and slow and you might make it to the next county line or to w.va line with out a citation.most traffic citations are just a way for local and state governments to collect revenue anyway, they dont give a damed about your safety!!

Dollars to doughnuts the OP is either one of the favored sons or in tight with the clique that runs this impoverished county. College friend grew up in this county, Monterrey to be exact and she wasn't kidding about this place, I saw it for myself when a bunch of us came for the Maple festival and stayed with her family. It was like going back in time, almost like being in a bad movie only it was real. Everybody looked detached and not many people seemed happy or smiled at all, just seemed full of old people and that good ole boy crony mentality that pervades this area like a dirty cloud. Maple festival was pretty cool but all in all it was a surreal experience in Highland County.

The trooper who stopped me yesterday was sitting at the very bottom of a hill on US 220 to ensure that he was able to capture the maximum speed possible. The only reason he would be sitting out there on a Sunday morning would be to ping skiers headed back from Snowshoe. First speeding ticket in 20 years and he didn't care one bit. I was clearly the guy he had been waiting for all weekend.
