U.S. Highway 290

Dripping Springs, TexasMar 16, 20102 Comments

On U.S. Highway 290, I often see DPS or a Sheriff parked at the Dripping Springs High School parking lot facing East. Usually at night, he will have his parking lights on. He runs radar in both directions and can intersect you at either end of Tiger Lane. I have also seen a Sheriff at the intersection of Old Hwy. 290 and U.S. Highway 290 sitting with his parking lights on.

Comments:
Heading Eastbound, what makes this a potential speed trap is you're cruising along @ 65 mph & it drops down to 55 right around 290 Fence / Drippin' Feed, then 50 mph near the school. Westbound, there really isn't any excuse as the speeds are only increasing on the way out of town from a 45 to 50, then 55 & upwards.

It's an ambush headed west, too. On Aug. 14, 2010, I came into Dripping Springs on U.S. 290 with my cruise control set on the 55 mph speed limit. It was 4 p.m. and the sun was in my eyes, and as I am a stranger I didn't notice that the speed dropped to 45. There was a state trooper lying in ambush just past the 45-mph sign.
