U.S. Hwy. 301 at County Road 18

Hampton, FloridaMar 29, 20105 Comments

A few years ago Hampton put a traffic light on U.S. Hwy. 301 at the intersection to their town and squeezed the posted limit down to 55 from 65 for approx 1/4 mile. In the southbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 301 a deep red Chevy Impala Super Sport, with no markings, or a white Ford police interceptor, also unmarked, sits in a spider hole in a driveway just about 25 yards south of the traffic light in Hampton at U.S. Hwy. 301. If one is not paying attention it is easy to miss the sqeeze down in speed that once was 65 mph. The white Dodge SUV is gone and replaced with the red Impala. Same for the north bound side excepting they hide on the south side of the intersecion for north bound traffic behind a small grove of trees. The next town southbound is the nationally infamous Waldo.

Comments:
The town of Hampton does still have the White SUV as a cop car. They have a red one, white one and a black one. You are correct he tries and hides in a spider hole just a little ways past the store on 301 to the right. Someone has decided to bulldoze the land surrounding that area so his little hole is not as invisible as before.

The trap is exactly as described. The light for CR218 was green and the 20 or so autos in both lanes never slowed down from 65 to 55. I was the one pulled over and the ticket is $191!

Hampton is the worst speedtrap of all. They annexed the section of #301 into the city so they can write tickets on #301. The chief of police is actually a part-time position as the "chief" works at the prison during the day. They are little more than parasites or leeches that prey on the motoring public. What they do ought to be against the law instead of being the law. A cancer on the state of Fla.

It is more like 730 feet.

If ticketed they sometimes put the distance between the radar and the speeding car on the citation. Mine was 612 feet north of the spider hole which is actually outside of the city limits.
