U.S. Hwy. 64 East of Eagle Nest

Eagle Nest, New MexicoJan 28, 20101 Comments

Desending from the Mountain East of Eagle Nest on U.S. Hwy. 64, on the straight
road leading into Eagle Nest, the speed limit signs drop rapidly from 45 to 40 to 30. Police are waiting at the 30 MPH sign. Also, entering Eagle Nest from the West on U.S. Hwy. 64 there is an auto speed sign indicating you speed. Police may frequent that end also. Little Town of Eagle Nest has a 15 MPH limit during school times. This area is a real money maker.

Comments:
The speed drops on a hill. State law requires speeds to drop at 10 miles each sign however they pull the 15 mile drop and semi trucks can't use their engine brakes so it's easy money. I'd like to see the traffic engineering study on this. Wait 95% of New Mexico roads don't have this. All about the money. Cop told me personally that it was a speed trap and cops stay busy with it. The police can also see from that location who comes and goes to the bars. It's that small of a town. I lived there.
