Tremont City, OhioJun 17, 20132 Comments

Less then 2 months ago I received a citation from the Tremont City Police for Speeding. I was told I was traveling 42mph in a 25mph zone.

With this said, since I was so displeased about this I figured I would announce this Village speed trap for others who my travel through it. But after reading some of the other “very negative” comments posted on this site, I feel it’s important to add something which made my encounter with the Tremont City Police some what pleasant.

Much to my surprise speeding was not the only offense I had committed. It was brought to my attention by the officer that my license plate tags had expired over 3 months ago.

The officer could have very well cited me for this offense on top of the citation he was ready to give me for speeding, but he did NOT. Not only was the officer very professional in appearance but also in the way he treated me.

The officer took the time to explain how he had tracked me speeding and explained to me the method of which he used both visually and by radar, but he also explained that he was not giving me a citation for the expired license plate tags because he did not feel the need to stack a ton of charges on me and how that was not his prerogative.

With this being said, I was still not happy to receive a ticket for speeding even after I felt I was not speeding, I was highly impressed on how this officer treated me with respect and professionalism he represented for his department.

Just one more thing I would like to add for the rest of the viewers and future posters to this site. If you are going to bash the police and practically call them stupid you should A. learn how to spell or B. learn to use spell check.

Comments:
I was in my Rv and didn't realize it went from 50 to 25MPH. Outside of town, I was pulled over for going 37 and got out of my RV and the young officer approached me with his hand on his gun and told me to get back inside and that he would let me know when to come out. At 70 years old, I gladly did what he ask. I had never had a ticket before and I guess I did the wrong thing. The young officer was very short with me and just handed me the ticket and told me to be on my way. In this case the young officer needs to learn a little PR. I'll never go through Tremont City again.

Tremont City, OH is a notorious speed trap. The village uses the police force as a tax collection agency. It is unfortunate that the Republican controlled OH legislature does not do more to control these communities that misuse the safety and traffic laws. There is nothing wrong with these local police stopping an informing motorists of the speed limits - issuing warnings/cautions; checking for OVI or other public safety issue. There are other communities that use automated speed warning devices that show you your speed, next to the posted limit. They operate 24 hours a day and do more help with safety. Towns that are concerned about safety install them, but towns that are concerned about revenue use speed cameras and local police as revenue collectors.
