US 19

Bryson City, North CarolinaMay 24, 20021 Comments

Just a warning to be careful. The speed limits are way too low throughout the town, certainly not warranted by traffic or conditions. US 19 southbound suddenly drops from 45 to 20, and the first thing I saw as I rounded the corner was flashing lights (he had someone else). There’s even a 4-lane highway posted at 20! Every speed limit is at least 10-20mph too low, all very unreasonable.

Comments:
When taking the exit into Bryson City, the speed limit changes three times in a space of about 500 feet, 45 then 25, then 35. It is downhill, a couple of nice pull offs for the police to hide in, and plenty of trees. There are also numerous entrances from the businesses, so be careful. If you do not the town police, sherriff, and highway patrol will get you. There is about zero tolerance.
