Here’s another notorious speed trap – US 195 from Milepost 51 to 54, aka Cashup Flats, just north of Steptoe. Whitman County Sheriff and WSP patrol this area frequently, passing out tickets to drivers, especially those who perform perfectly legal passing maneuvers. Be very wary from Cashup Flats/Ragon Road to Barnes Cut-Off/Klaveno Road…WSP has a weigh station along this two-mile straight stretch, and they do use it on occasion. WSP also patrols the whole highway from Spokane to the state line with either a motorcycle or the dreaded Black Dodge Charger. WSP is also noted for using "stealth" cars – ordinary, run-of-the-mill types of cars that you would never believe are cruisers. They are very effective.
