US 52 Northbound

Society Hill, South CarolinaAug 25, 20132 Comments

On US 52 northbound, there is a small 35 mph sign at the top of the hill. There is a large 45 mph sign after the hill flattens out at the bottom that is visible halfway down the hill. Beyond that, there is a 55 mph sign at the edge of town, also visible while on the hill. To maintain 35 mph going down the hill constant application of the brake would be required. The officer at the bottom of the hill in an unmarked white Dodge Stratus with an instant-on radar gun. As your vehicle picks up speed going down the hill, the 45 mph and 55 mph signs are visible, causing the driver to keep their foot off of the brake, and virtually guaranteeing a ticket.

The comment posted August 25, 2013 describes almost exactly what happened to me on March 3, 2014. I was ticketed for going 48 miles an a 35 mph zone. I pointed out to the young arresting officer that I had noticed his unmarked car parked somewhat strangely at the side of the highway, pointing toward the pavement, and that I stopped immediately after he pulled out after me and turned on his light. I also pointed out that I could read a sign just ahead that posted the speed limit as 55 MPH. He admitted grudgingly that it was his job to generate revenue for the local government. When I got home to Florida I noticed that the address of the court to which I had been summoned was a PO Box in Society Hill, number 29 to be exact.

Same exact thing happened to me on October 9th of this year. My boss grew up in Society Hill and says they are well know for writing tickets without just cause. He said they used to ask you to pay your ticket in cash on the spot meaning no record of the ticket or payment. I smell dirty cops!!!
