US 59 between Isleib Rd. and 762

Rosenberg, TexasApr 22, 20141 Comments

This is an odd one. Marked Houston PD units pulling people over on 59 inside Rosenberg city limits. I witnessed no less than four police stops with two or three additional HPD units patrolling that stretch of 59. No Ft. Bend County, Rosenberg PD, or State DPS were present – Only Houston police. Two of the stops appeared to have k-9 units present.

Comments:
This area is known for people impersonating police officers. Typically it will be one unit consisting of a surplus police vehicle and a single "officer" with a fake uniform. The fake officer will target female drivers, pull them over and demand sexual favors to get out of a bogus ticket. This section of 59 is also the primary route for drugs and human trafficking in and out of Mexico. If the officers were conducting vehicle searches, it's possible they were cartel members looking for a shipment and weren't aware that they were well outside of Houston city limits. The legit cops here are either going to be Rosenberg PD, Ft. Bend County Sheriff, or Texas DPS. There is currently no Beasley PD. If you are stopped in this area and something doesn't seem right, turn on your hazards and go to the nearest well lit gas station. The legit cops will know what you are doing and likely won't give you grief. Also, legit Ft. Bend County Sheriff will park a vehicle under the overpass at Isleib Rd. and you can probably go there for help if you think it's a fake cop pulling you over. Some red flags to watch for: -vehicles with no markings, police logos, or light bars -older vehicle types that are no longer in service (Crown Vic, etc.) -officers whose uniform articles, nametags, rank insignia, etc. do not match (dress shirt with wrinkled, faded cargo pants, etc.) -officers whose uniforms are not consistent with a known dress code (for example, officer says he is HPD but is wearing khaki instead of blue) -Any officer that is not Rosenberg PD, Ft. Bend County Sheriff, or DPS -Any officer who is not "squared away" to some extent. While working cops don't have as strict uniform standards as the military, there is some level of bearing expected. If the officer has a beard and a ponytail or his uniform looks like he had it balled up on the floor before he put it on, then he's not likely a legit cop.
