US 84 on the NW outskirts of Post

Post, TexasJul 01, 20002 Comments

Beware of this area. The speed limit drops from 70 mph to 35 in a matter of a few hundred feet. It is easy to exceed the limit here because when you are driving into Post, you are descending about 1000 feet in elevation. The incline of the highway makes it easy to exceed the limit and difficult to slow down. I’ve seen many cars pulled over in this area.

Comments:
The speedlimit is posted that iit is slower, and drops to 55, then 45a mile away. It is all clearlyposted, and does like almost all Texas cities, most go from highway speed to 55, then slower. The speedlimit does not drop to 35 until you are past the first traffic signal. yes, they work a lot of traffic here, I live here, and will turn off the cruise control at the slower speed ahead sign, and my vehicles, all will be doing 55, when I pass the sign, at the city limits if Ijust let off the accelerator. It is not that steep of a hill, but I havehad people whiz by me like I was parked. it is another mile to the first traffic signal, after which it then drops to 35. We have a lot of TX Tech students who come through like they are on fire. This is all plainly posted, if you just watch the signs and comply. Plus we only Deputy Sheriffs, and troopers, not local police, so mostly the troopers work traffic between the city limiits and the top of the caprock.

Garza County SO is the local police agency for Post. Their focus is on criminal activity and they write few citations. Highway Patrol focuses much effort on US-84 as Eastbound vehicles drop down the caprock into Post, and also among the rolling hills (mesas) just East of town.
