US Highway 1

Brunswick, MaineApr 18, 20043 Comments

North bound on US Rt 1 entering Brunswick, the speed limit drastically drops to 35mph, just as the gas stations are visable on the right, local police sit either at the first gas station on the right or in the median next to the bushes on the leFort They are there anytime of the day or night but espically at night with their lights off. Too many people have been nailed their because at 35mph it feels like a crawl, espically after driving 65mph on the interstate.

Comments:
I'm not a big fan of the Brunswick PD....BUT the speed drops from 65 to 50 as you exit I295, then drops to 35 less than a mile later. Yes, it feels like a crawl, but there are three sets of signs indicating the 35 mph speed limit - plenty of warning - before entering a thickly settled commercial area. I ease my speed down to 35-40 and have never been bothered. I don't consider this a speed trap because you are suitably warned - it's not there to be a money making operation. Don't bring your Mssachusetts driving habits to Maine.

Because you're coming off the interstate, you're used to doing 65. It is well marked, but easy to be remiss, as the exit is still a 2-lane, interstate-like road. The waiting police have NOT stopped me here before, I suppose because they could see I was suddenly aware of the slower Route 1 ahead, and therefore hitting the brake. I am always a bit suspect of a post on the internet from someone who can't spell for crap. Ignorance?

Keep your snarky Mass driver comments to yourself. I've seen plenty of a-hole Maine drivers. A-holes aren't resricted to any state.
