While driving into town the speed changes from a 55 mph zone to a 30 mph zone in approximatley 1/4 mile.

Bicylist's opinion: Highway 101 is part of the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route, a scenic highway. The speed limit in South Bend is now 30 mph, previously it was 25 mph in some places and 35 mph in some places. A uniform 30 mph is attempt to protect speeding motorists from tricky traps! There have been many vehicle-animal collisions on hiway 101, elk and deer, so a speed limit is necesary to protect motorists! Also as a tax payer, I appreciate the police supporting themselves collecting $124 or greater ticket fees from dangerous drivers rather than bicyclists! Please obey the speed limit for safety!

The person who said the speed limit goes from 55mph to 30mph in i/4 mile wasn't paying attention to the road, probably talking on a cell phone or texting. The speed goes from 55mph to a warning of 40mph ahead, then the 40mph then a warning of 30mph then the 30mph. I would hate to be on the road with anybody that missed all those signs. I live on a hill overlooking that area and I see people speeding all the time. I asked one of the officers why after he stops a speeder he puts up with getting the finger when the speeder leaves. The officer asked WHAT!!!. I said half of them don't even use their turn signals when they re-enter the highway. I said if I was on patrol I would stop then again and issue a ticked for not using their turn signal. The officer said that was being too hard on them. If you break the law, pay the price and and quit bitching because you got caught.
