US Highway 11 near US Highway 11

Middletown, VirginiaNov 02, 20062 Comments

The entire route through Middletown VA on US Route 11 North or South is used as a speed trap. They have two police officers and strictly enforce the 30 mph speed limit which used to be 35 mph. It is a great source of revenue for the town. The police officers were deputized some years back by the Frederick County Sheriffs department. Since that time they have been taking full advantage by policing the roads as far as two miles outside the city limits. They are also known to enforce fairly obscure traffic laws since there are many transient visitors to the historic area.

Comments:
This area is famous for speeding tickets. I was traveling north out of town and got pulled over 1/10 of a mile before the 40 mph sign and got ticketed for picking up speed to soon, doing 41 in a 35.

Very true about Middletown. I was on my way to Winchester on Rt. 11 North, keeping up with the flow of traffic and was pulled over ostensibly for doing 43 in a 35, but more likely because I had the misfortune of being last in a long line of bumper-to-bumper cars. I've heard similar stories from other people who have traveled in the area.
