US Highway 141 near South Avenue

4 lane highway through town, cops (usually 2) hide in business driveways on Friday before holidays and Sunday after holidays and write out of towners only! Enforcement is extreme at these high volume times when we tourists are easy prey. This is a real money maker for Crivitz.

This is not only a speed trap. The Crivitz cops will violate your constitutional rights by doing vehicle searches depending on where your from, what kind of vehicle you drive, race, age, etc. They tend to pull people over for various reasons. Supposed violations such as; tinted window, loud exhaust, etc, etc. Whether there is a vehicle violation or not they make you believe that they have the right to search your car. If you look at the law, there has to be some evidence of criminal activity to do a search without warrant. I don't believe they could get a search warrant on most occasions with stopping a person for a minor traffic violation or for vehicle defects. However they will tell the drivers they have the right and will get a search warrant. I think the judge and DA would be very upset to have to get up and give a search warrant in the evening or go in on a holiday or weekend for something that these cops say they believe might be cause to search. They violate the rules and constitution a lot from what I hear. I've witnessed more than one occasion of such searches, one was for the occupants not wearing seat belts. The Village board has been told of these violations and refuse to do anything about the corrupt behavior going on. My suggestion would be to go around Crivitz and not patronize the businesses in Crivitz as many of the owners of these businesses support the behavior of these cops and also the Village board.

the two lane hyw ENDS 7 miles south of Crivitz. ther are only two cops in Crivitz,(500+ people), the cops are part timers. otherwise yes they do aim for "out of towners" but not "only". the two cops are not on duty at the same time., there is only about 60 to 80 hours of police coverage in Crivitz per week. Speed trap ? Maybe?? but not in the true sence.

Police car is usually in the town of Crivitz during holidays Yes, but to not patronize the businesses there because of it is just plain silly.! just wair your seatbelt , dont litter and dont speed. and you should be just fine! Sometimes people who do not live up here come up here and think because there upnorth can do whatever they want and i think the cops are finally putting a stop to it. thank goodness. :) They also sit in parkinglot across from the church , in case you feel the need to speed there look out! (please dont run over the lady who is 80 picking up her meds by the pharmacy) one sits there too!

I live in Crivitz, WI and I deeply regret that the police department in this town is, in fact, a sad representation of law enforcement. The police of this community are predators of the worst kind and intent on only thing, intimidation. The community largely operates in fear of these thugs who impose their will on the community and act with impunity. One of the officers was convicted of drunk driving and was once involved in a hit and run accident for which he was convicted - that's the kind of cops we have. To all the motoring public who happen to drive through Crivitz and, on behalf of the citizens of this community, I want to apologize for the shame they have brought upon our town. We are good, decent, honest, hard working people who welcome visitors and their families. Unfortunately the narrow minded power hungry elite who control the business of politics within the community see the police as a convenient way to raise revenue and use them as such with reckless abandon. I have seen one of the subject cops brandish his sidearm like he was ten year old with a water pistol. If you think you are vicitimized because you are a tourist, consider living here in fear 365 days a year. The average citizen will say or doing nothing because they fear the consequence of retribution from these demented freaks. I told one of the cops he was a sad representative of law enforcement and should be discharged. He showed up on my doorstep in the middle of the night, intoxicated, carrying his sidearm, wearing a disheveled uniform, and issued me a citation for a totally trumped up charge. When you drive through Crivitz just remember that the police do not represent us and we feel a deep sense of shame for their ruthless tactics and disregard for the law.
