If you have to go 'through' the McBee area, use the new by-pass and do 5mph BELOW the posted speed limit! This place has been a speed trap since the 1960's! Before the by-pass was built, going to Myrtle Beach from Charlotte required going thru McBee. In 1971, speed limit went from 55mph to 20mph, with NO warning! State and private citizens put up signs warning about the speed trap and McBee PD removed them! In 2008, if you got stopped by the local PD for any reason, if you had sodas or cigarettes in the car, if they didn't have McBee city tax stamp, you'd get charged for 'possession of non-tax paid items'. DO NOT get stopped in McBee with alcohol in the car, even locked in the trunk! 1 can of beer gets the same jail term as a kilo of drugs!
