US Highway 19 near Lower Zachary Road

Zachary, LouisianaMay 02, 20083 Comments

Hwy 19 at he south end of city limits is 65mph then reduces to 55mph and a few hundred yards it goes to 45mph. Once you get north of Lower Zachary Rd. it turns to 35 mph 4 lane road. Police sit at the Best Western and shoot radar north and south.

You don't notice when the speed limit changes from 45 to 35 mph at the lower Zachary Road. There are alot of distracting signs on the west side of LA19 so you don't see the speed limit. I know I just sent in my $60.00. I had to go back and find the sign.

I was ticked on this road. Going 50 in a 35. The cop even said it is a speed trap. I thought I missed the sign where it says "Reduced Speed Ahead" or "Speed Zone Ahead". There are NO SUCH SIGNS! This must be why the cop said it is a speed trap. Because he knows there is no warning that the speed is lowering.

The post just above is mine. Been to court with my ticket. I was found guilty, charged $183 and have to attend driving school. There is a state code for placements of the "Reduced Speed Ahead" signs. But according to the DA in Zachary, Trae Welch, The city of Zachary does not have to abide by the code. So my question to him was, if there is no warning that the speed is reducing, it makes it a lot easier to catch someone speeding, right? He just smiled and said nothing. Next question was, So it is a speed trap, right? Again he just looks at me and smiles and says, Well, I wouldn't call it that. I had to walk away before I hit him. So, my next thing is to contact the Department of transportation, the state police and a lawyer.
