US Highway 191 near State Highway 163

Bluff, Utah, is actually a small town. At one time in 2005, while traveling from Arizona heading to Blanding, Utah, for a funeral service. A State Highway patrol stopped us for no apparent reason in Bluff, Utah.

We were driving on the old main road in Bluff, Utah, and I was explaining to my wife what the town was like in the 70’s. Suddenly, a State Highway patrol pulled behind us and flashed his lights. We pull off the the road on U.S. 191. When the officer approached us, he said that he wanted to know why we were on the old main road. My wife explained and the officer did not give us a ticket. In a casual short conversation, the officer mentioned that he was recently stationed to Bluff and was from Montecello, Utah.

The point is that I am Native American and my truck has an Arizona Licence Plate. Based on this experience, please be aware that if you are Native American, the Utah State Highway Patrol will stop you in Bluff, Utah, even if you are driving the speed limit. This is a true form of racial profiling and discrimination against Native Americans, Mexican Americans and African Americans.
