US Highway 2 near Passing Lane

Sultan, WashingtonMar 21, 20061 Comments

Sultan officer parks in the Chevron station on the passing lane east of town. People want to get by the slower cars (which usually speed-up in this area)and need to go over the limit to do so. Skiers watch out!

Comments:
Laser in use on eastbound traffic (toward Stevens Pass and Wenatchee). The starving tavern-town of Sultan would be loath to eliminate this speed trap. Slow drivers often stay in the passing lane, driving continuously without passing (against Washington law). It takes sharp eyes and a lead foot to get past these left-lane squatters. As a result, this stretch is a speedway, where the 60 limit drops to 50. Frustrated drivers frequently hit 70 mph or more through here, day and night. Skip MacDonald's and Chevron here. If you missed the many choices for fuel and food in Monroe (before Sultan) there is good food and a fuel station exactly 60 miles east of Sultan at the turnoff to Wenatchee Lake.
