US Highway 20 near State Highway 394

Westfield, New YorkAug 18, 20061 Comments

The I-90 toll Road’s booths entering NY state are often backed up a mile or more. Drivers avoiding this get off at the Ripley exit. The Westfield Police wait in town and pull over out-of-state and NY state vehicles from distant localities. I was only pulled over after my plates were ran and I had stopped at a stop light. I was accused of doing 46 in a 30 mph. zone in less than 3oo feet. I couldn’t have accelerated to 46 mph and then pulled over in that distance. I was rudely told to go to court if I didn’t like it.

I did the same thing. I had Alabama license plates and I was on my way to Buffalo with a relative who lives there. We were pulled over after entering the town and making a right turn at the light on our way to getting back onto the I-90 East. Now I know why the long lines at the Ripley toll booths. We were pulled over and we nver the speed limit. I got a ticket for using a cell phone and it was my passenger on the cell phone. We offered to show the phone to the officer to prove it was him on the cell phone, but he got belligerent and threatened to arrest both of us. When we went to court, he had us arriving at the light from the East, this was a lie. It didn't matter, the judge gave me a huge fine of over $350. plus court costs. There were at least 150 cases on the docket and about 50-60 were in the court room with us. This is a huge speed trap! One of the local residents said that after the Welch's Grape Jelly factory closed, that "traffic enforcement" had replaced the factory as a source of income for the Westfield Government. The officer that ticketed us, just plain fabricated a case, based I believe upon my Alabama license plates!
