US Highway 23

Mountain City, GeorgiaNov 16, 20061 Comments

This entire area between Clayton and the NC state line is one big trap, with the road changing from two to three to four lanes and the speed limit varying from 55 MPH down to 35 or 40 without warning. There is always a cop on patrol, especially in Mountain City. And he is especially there at afternoon rush hours (Friday) and weekends. I have seen many a tourist and commuter alike pulled over in this area, so be careful!

Comments:
I live in Mountain City and I am always happy to see our officer along the road. In fact, I'm disappointed when I do not see him there. I wish the city could afford more officers to catch ya'll when you think you can speed thru with impunity. I travel many times a year to Florida, I use the 2 lane back roads all the way. Going thru the little towns, I observe their speed limits. I know the locals appreciate using their highways to carry on their day-to-day lives. If I choose to speed and endanger their life and mine, then I deserve to pay the penalty. Please slow down in Mountain City, the life you save could be your own. It is a particulary fatal stretch of highway. I would not call this a speed trap, I call it a safety measure.
