US Highway 281 near Blanco City Limits Sign

Blanco, TexasNov 29, 20054 Comments

Heading North on US281 – Speed Limit Drops from 70 MPH to 50 MPH At City Limits Sign (with no warning) then to 40 MPH all within 1/2 mile. Blanco PD sits at city limits sign catching drivers heading from San Antonio to Austin.

Comments:
The speed limit changes seven times from one end of little old Blanco. A distance less than a mile. The City of Blanco targets out of towners to fill the city coffers. It is definately a speed trap town. Plead Innocent and go to trial. The cops don't show up and you get a dismissal. Their favorite trick is to put on the ticket that you were in a lower speed limit zone than you really were. Make the cop identify the speed limit sign.

Entering Blanco after dark from the south I was very conscious of my speed and was under the speed limit. Suddenly the speed limit dropped from 70 to 55 and I slowed immediately. I stayed under the lmit through town, and the officer pulled me over. I told him I got on the brakes as soon as I saw the sign, and he replied,"You didn't slow down quick enough." No help from city hall either. I avoid Blanco now.

When going north, just go take RR-165 off to the right before you enter city limits. Problem solved.

The City has annexed SL163 and RR165. Try slowing down.
