US Highway 290

The speed limit drops to 60, near a traffic light. But the enforcement in that County is just too high. In the middle fo the night, when there is no traffic, you are pulled over for doing 75 on a 70. Cop claimed that the limit is 65 at night.

I think this county gets most of its income from ticketing people.

Comments:
Texas Department of Transportation controls the speed limits on state highways in the State of Texas based on safety issues and historical records of accidents. In this instance, the speed limit drops from 65mph, which is the maximum speed allowed on Texas roadways at night, to 60mph as you approach a dangerous controlled intersection with a history of accidents. The city's revenue from enforcing this is minimal. It does not count on traffic fines to do anything other than offset the cost of the enforcement of a state law and enhance public safety. It's amazing, however, the number of people willing to illegally speed along streets and highways with illegal substances, warrants and under the influence of narcotics and alcohol. Excuse us while law enforcement officers attempt to remove those people from our roadways in order to make it a safer place to live and travel.

Previous commentor is correct. There is NO public road in the state of Texas where you may LEGALLY drive 70 mph at night. They are also correct about this intersection being an historic problem. There have been many many collisions near that particular intersection. And because people insist on exceeding the speed limit, there have been several fatalities there.
