US Highway 31 near Calera
Approaching downtown area from both North and South. Heavy traffic includes 18-wheelers, dump trucks, cement haulers. Lots of speeders; speed drops from 45 to 35 to 30 in short distance. Pavement at RR crossing in terrible condition. Dangerous intersection near Post Office.

Traffic in this part of town is usually heavy but is rarely going faster that 5 miles over speed limit due to the people turning into the post office or into one of the shopping sites, or simply because of of the rough railroad crossing. Cops sometimes sit in the parking lots of the businesses on bot sides of the road but they don't bother anyone unless they are speeding 15-20 MPH over the limit. The cops in Calera are fine people and the city makes very little revenue from traffic fines.
