I live here. Not a speed trap. You will be given a ticket for speeding but they are very flexible. Have to be going several MPH's over the speed limit. Just because someone has been given a ticket for speeding doesn't constitute a speed trap.

This person is right. I live close to hear and have ben pulled over once and definetly deserved it but only got a warning. Not what I would call a speed trap. I drive this road allot.

Townsend may not have been a speedtrap at one time, but it is now. They have hired a full time police officer whose only job appears to be writing speeding tickets. We travel through Townsend at least 2 times a week going to hike in the smokies and we never go or come back without seeing someone being pulled over by the officer. Our son-in- law was stopped and said there were over 150 people in court for speeding that day! They have also changed the speed limit after the red light on the way to the Smokies from 45 to 40. It had always been 45 until they hired an officer.

this town of 244 people funds their police department by praying on the tourists that pass through here on their way to the Smokies. They have a $100,000 Chevrolet Tahoe that is outfitted with everything that motorists can buy. The comments from the people that supposedly live there are posted by Police Department employees. Avoid this town like the plague.
