US Highway 43

Loretto, TennesseeMay 09, 20041 Comments

As you come into Loretto from the north side of town the speed limit changes from 60mph to 45mph on a hill. Most drivers like myself see the speed change and think hill. So ya just wanna cost over the hill and loose speed. Theres a church on the right of the hiway at the top of the hill along with a mini storage lot and Lawson’s department store. The cops love to sit on top of the hill and get people coasting over at 60mph. When you go to court your ticket will get reduced and won’t go on your record but you’ll still have to pay court costs which is $70.50. Usually midnight to 5am is the worst times. People getting off 2nd shift and people going to work on dayshiFort Bank of America parking lot is also another hotspot.

Comments:
If you're going even further South, especially to or through St. Joseph, do not speed! There's a new Cheif in town and apparently he wants the "Billy Bada** Cop" reputation - as do most of the mere patrolmen of Loretto and St. Jospeh. The commentator above is correct about the speed change on a hill as you enter Loretto. Most vehicles can just coast up the hill and be down to around 45 by the time you top the hill, but be prepared for a redneck cop wannabe to pull you over for any reason he can find (I say "he" because there are no "shes" with the Loretto PD. It boosts their pittifully insufficient ego to play God behind their badges. There is no guarantee that you will not be found guilty, have to pay the fine, have to pay the court costs, and possibly have to go to driving school and each of those are not cheap. Your best bet is just to be sure you're not in a hurry when passing through.
