On Mar 5, 2010, I left I-75 and proceeded S on 441. Within 1 mile the speed limit suddenly dropped from 60 to 35 or 45 with no apparent reason. The cop had me immediately. No warning. I'll bet they sit there a large percentage of the time. This is not helping Florida local tourism at all. My suggestion would be to not leave the interstate unless absolutely necessary. When I got nailed in this obvious speed trap, I vowed never to patronize this area again and have told many people the same thing.
Yes, Alachua is getting as bad as Waldo; at least it's heading that way. If you get off I-75, just get gas. There's not much in town. If Waldo and Alachua and other small towns would get rid of their almost useless local police departments (which cost the taxpayers a fortune unless they write tons of tickets), and replace the city police with a contract with the sheriff's department, then we'd see a lot fewer nuisance tickets. There's one exception for keeping local police: for a fact, Alachua has a reputation for having a lot of big muscle fights on the weekends.
Re the #1 post above -- Rt. 441 is posted 45 mph both North and South from the I-75 exit. Going North it is next posted 55 and then 65. Going South it drops to 35 from 45 as the commercial area gets denser. It is not 60 right off the I-75 exit.
