US Highway 52 near Exit Number Solida Road

South Point, OhioNov 07, 20051 Comments

US 52 in general from Ironton to Huntington is a 4 lane, modern road with a 55MPH speed limit. There is an OHP post located near South Point, and they are thick as fleas in this area. Enforcement is always heaviest the last week of any month. Typical hiding spots are in the median near the South Point exit, where they are hid by a bend in the road. When they don’t have this area camped, they will patrol the area from the South Point exit to an area near a Wal-Mart supercenter, crossing the median in unsafe ways to make U-Turns even into rush hour traffic to keep their circuit going. I avoid 52 in Lawrence county whenever I can, the whole lenghth from the infamous Hanging Rock trap to the state line is basically one long speed trap.

Comments:
Anyone who says this area of Ohio is not a speedtrap must be a police officer trying to downplay it's reputation. For 30+ years the area from the famous hanging rock to Huntington Exit has been so over enforced it is ridiculous! I have no problem with law enforcement, but these guys are doing it for the money. Not cool! I advoid the strip when I can and the businesses along it. Several years ago the overenforcement shut down the Red Fox Lounge at the Holiday Inn. If you left the parking lot at night in an out of state car you were certain to be pulled. The same goes on today, if you are out of state.
