US Highway 64 East near Town of Columbia

Columbia, North CarolinaAug 16, 20062 Comments

Going East on 64 out of Columbia there are no speed signs; however, the minute we passed the 55MPH sign, a police car was coming at us with blinking lights. We were clocked at 70MPH. (This was a road w swampland all around, no cross streets or houses for miles). We turned back in the car to see what the sign actually read, and by the time we had turned around, the police had already caught someone else in that trap. We did get a ticket ($140)

Comments:
There IS a speeding sign that posts 55mph just as U leave Columbia going East. It comes up soon after U pass the seafood store on the right-hand side. So drivers beware...don't go over the speed limit or the cops will nab U.

Columbia county's main source of income is speeding tickets. Just go to the town hall on traffic court day and see the crowd lined up. Plus, soon after you get a ticket you are swamped with letters from lawyers looking to defend you. This is BIG business in Columbia County.
