US Highway 64 near Interstate 65

Travelling on Highway 64 between Fayetteville and Pulaski you pass through the community of Frankewing. This is the intersection of I-65 and US-64. Frankewing sits in a valley so you are coming down hill from both E and W. The speed limit drops from 65 to 45 coming down the hill in both directions. At certain times of day this is a busy area, with Interstate and local traffic using the exit. At most times, it is deserted. There is a blind spot on the E side of Frankewing where I commonly see State Troopers set up. On 5/6/05 there was one trooper and also two Giles County units there. Again on 5/8/05 there was one trooper, both between 17:30 and 18:30. I’ve also seen them there in the morning between 07:30 and 08:30. They sometimes use constant radar, but more often instant-on radar. A good detector will usually tip you off to their presence if there’s traffic in front of you. The speed limit change is for less than 2 miles, so it really isn’t unreasonable, but it can catch you off guard and be difficult to slow down coming down the hill on either side.

Comments:
This is most definitely a speed trap - live just a mile away and there's always a State Trooper or County Cop sitting there...
