US Highway 81 near State Highway 17

Rush Springs, OklahomaJun 08, 20073 Comments

Speed limit drops from 70 mph to 45 mph in the minimum distance allowed by state laws (300 ft per 10 mph change). Little or no tolerance given. City of Rush Springs claims high danger at intersection, but City receives most of its revenue from speeding citations.

Comments:
This speed trap is almost always in effect. I drive from the turnpike to Duncan regularly and must pass through this trap each time. They got me once, the first time. I hate this town and they should be known exlusively for their speed trap.

What, you dont like the watermelon festival. Dude, you dont want to get a ticket, then slow your happy ass down, lol. Their are plenty of signs, even road bumps telling you to slow down. Im sick of you people who are "just passing through" refusing to slow down and t-boning us as we try to cross the highway to get to the otherside of town. I have lost to many friends that way. Slow your happy ass down or next time I hope its yout hat gets killed and your family and friends can cry about how you died in our speed trap. Slow the hell down you idiots.

Hey, Watermelon guy who acts like everyone in Rush is getting killed at the intersection: You know good and well you don't get 'to the other side of town' by going accross US 81. The town only exists on the east side, the highway and the small section west of the highway always was 'the country' and was annexed specifically to collect traffic fines on the highway. The police department has tripled in size in the last thirty years even though the population of Rush Springs is still the same it was in the 1960's. You must be one of the police officers, no one else in town appreciates the speed trap you guys run. Rush Springs is a good example of overgrown oppresive government. This started in the 1980's with Don Hall dropping all the in-town speed limits down by 10 mph and started writing tickets for doing 2-over the new limits. Don't give me your 'public safety' jargon, it has nothing to do with public safety, its all about money and heavy-handed (and bellied) policemen.
