US Highway 93 North near Exit Number 1

Salem, New HampshireSep 12, 20071 Comments

Immediately after exit 1, the lanes drop from 3 to 2 lanes.

Troopers will sit in the far right lane after the bridge and pull people over for driving in the breakdown lane after the far right lane (the previous 3rd lane) ends.

Firstly, you are taking about INTERSTATE 93. Just correcting you on that one :) Anyways, the speed limit drops to 55 mph around I'd say a half mile to 3/4ths-mile north of the state line from the Mass. standard 65 mph just before the rest area---well, 55 sometimes, because earlier this year they just replaced the old Speed Limit 55 sign with a new digital alert sign that on the side has a "SPEED LIMIT 55 - MINIMUM 45" DIGITAL sign so they can CHANGE those signs. 95% of the time it is 55. Worse about this speed trap is the MINIMUM speed of 45 mph, so good luck going 30. Again, they can change that speed limit whenever they like--usually for inclement weather--so that is probably the worst of this trap. I don't understand why the normal limit here closer to Boston, where just south of this trap is 65, is 55 on this zone and yet it goes to 65 just south and north of Franconia Notch up in the sensitive White Mountains.
