US Highway US-79 near State Route 110

New Summerfield, TexasApr 10, 20082 Comments

Typical small town (population 998) revenue generating trap. Usually taking advantage of people passing thru visiting the nearby ATV park to the west of town. Rural town, mostly ranches with houses well off the highway.

Comments:
Yes, it is a speed trap It's a shame because I would love to shop in Jacksonville but I would rather drive the extra miles to Tyler than go through New Summerville, TX.

Town is situated on hilly terrain and speed signs are hard to see due to the hillside background and lack of any habitation heads-ups/awareness on Hwy 79, coming from the south,ergo...blink your eye or get distracted and you may not register the postings in time. The southern approach appeared to be a favorite hangout for the young, polite DPS trooper on April 8, 2011 (myself and another driver apprehended within a 30 minutes time frame). Attempted to pay fine at JOP office per trooper's advisory, but wasted time because the judge won't accept fee according to the clerk unless original ticket has arrived on site (Judge (name omitted) was away from her office @ 10:00am on that Tuesday). A definite moneymaker.
