US Hwy 25 & US Hwy 378

Edgefield, South CarolinaMar 23, 20092 Comments

As you enter Edgefield County from Greenwood County, At about mile marker 4 the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 then about mile marker 6 to 35. At mile marker 9 it goes back up to 45 right past the intersection, and then to 55 between mile marker 10 and 11. I was right at the 45 mile an hour sign going 44 when the deputy flashed his light passing me on the other side of the road on this 2 lane highway. he claimed I was going 55 in a 35, but changed his tune reducing it to a 44 in a 35. Watch out for this intersection.

Comments:
This is definitely a speed trap. There are no signs that warn you of a transition from one speed to another. Heading North you go from 55 to 35 to 45 to 55 and heading South you go from 55 to 45 to 35 to 55. The Law Enforcement Officers just sit and wait for you to go from 55 to 35 or 55 to 45 in two seconds and then pull you over and give you a lovely ticket for going 15 to 20 miles over the posted speed limit. How safe is it for you to deaccelerate from 55 to 35 in a split second? Also, I believe they especially target the Correctional Staff going to and from work on that road.

I would have to disagree with both of these posters. If anything do slow down for this intersection. Keep it in your memory if you will be making a trip through this section of HWY. The intersection referenced is that of HWY 25 and 378. it is roughly 9 miles from edgfield or 21-22 miles from Greenwood. Why? well this intersection as just noted is far out in the country on a nice scenic road. For the most part, the drive on HWY 25 or 378 is as straight as one could hope for. Unfortunately though drivers on 378 driving east have a short distance to slow after topping a hill before intersecting with hwy 25. This has led to many lives being lost in this intersection. They have recently placed a blinking red light for hwy 378 drivers to see. Hopefully this will keep anymore lives from being lost in this spot. http://edgefielddaily.com/edgefield092611.html. I have lived near the intersection all my life and the police do not sit at the intersection very often. Many times when an officer is seen here they are pulled into an old store parking lot at the intersection completing paperwork from an earlier call. I also work for EMS and have the police frequency and now their actions from my listening. Again please be safe in this spot. The life you save may be your own or your family members.
